How my life changed with the Qur’an and how my confidence grew while studying Tajweed by Noura Boukaddour

Through the past years embarking into the idea of getting more from the Quran was a necessity for myself. Knowledge without كلام الله will not grow, is like a tree, that without water it will not grow or give any fruit from itself. Those who are in the path of knowledge will understand that feeling, the idea of getting more and more because your main goal is to please Our Creator.

Something that I experienced with myself is that once you are into this path, such us memorising the Quran or learning Tajweed your whole character changes. You start acting more fearful because you know that what you are seeking is a big thing that requires to leave many things and to establish upon you discipline and effort. You have to leave every matter or action that could mess up your path. As Umar bin Al-Khattab رضي الله عنه reported: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Verily, Allah elevates some people with this Quran and disgraces others”.

وعن عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه‏:‏ أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال ‏:‏ ‌‏ إن الله يرفع بهذا الكتاب أقوامًا ويضع به آخرين‏

With that it is mean, that through action and effort we should stay in this path, because Allah elevates those who seek and teach knowledge, those who act upon what Allah has stated permissible and impermissible. You fear Allah, when you start knowing the high scale of what you are seeking, you start fearing Allah and asking Him to not be of those who turn their backs to the Quran and Sunnah.

To be sincere, once you taste the sweetness of the Quran your whole reality changes and your routine goes around it. The way that you carry yourself and those things that you do, will be affected by it. You see the effects that has upon the hearts and how it nourishes them, our hearts really need to be purified and start being stronger upon what Allah established for us. It cures all the things and sins that we face in our lifetime.

As Ibn Qayyim relates in his book الداء والدواء:

وقد أخبر سبحانه عن القرآن أنه شفاء، فقال تعالى: {وَلَوْ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ قُرْءَانًا أَعْجَمِيًّۭا لَّقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا فُصِّلَتْ ءَايَـٰتُهُۥٓ ۖ ءَا۬عْجَمِىٌّۭ وَعَرَبِىٌّۭ ۗ قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ هُدًۭى وَشِفَآءٌۭ }

وقال ابن القيم أيضاً: “… فإن القرآن كله شفاء…”. “فهو شفاء للقلوب من داء الجهل والشك والريب…”

Regarding Tajweed, it helped me to gain the confidence that I needed to recite the Quran. During the first stages of my memorisation period sometimes I felt the necessity to understand and know how to implement the rules. During the classes I noticed how my contemplation and “respect” for the letters itself was growing. You really start taking seriously the message that Allah established for us. With the past of the months you are more conscious of the words that you are reciting and the implementation for every situation presented. I really felt the change of my recitation during the month of Ramadan, by the permission of Allah.

Besides, you feel more secure because you are conscious of avoiding any mispronunciation and mistakes in the words of Allah عز وجل. You gain the confidence because for once you are not only reciting, but you are creating a bond with your مصحف.

At the end you really end enjoying it, as you increase in understanding if Allah give you the Tawfeeq.

    “..our hearts really need to be purified…” > this indeed is true and has to be realized by many of us. We need to purify our hearts with the words of our Lord. بارك الله فيك again dear ukhti for this great reminder.
